On Deck

It’s Friday, so it must be menu planning time.  Here’s my plan for the week:

Pizza Party – Saturday

Wild Mushroom Soup with wild mushroom crostini and poached egg – Sunday

Onion soup -use up leftover caramelized onions? make Sunday to eat  Tuesday
Gratin Savoyard – Monday
“Salsa” poached eggs + Polenta or Huevos Rancheros – Wednesday
Pasta with tomatoes/spinach – Thursday
Burritos – Friday
Since it’s Friday, I’m obvs thinking of this:
But also this:

Sorta Minestrone Soup

I’ll admit it. I’m kinda hung over today. And yeah, I may have stayed in bed til 3pm. But I cooked from 12:30-7pm straight + helped clean the house. And dinner party became a dance party til 4am.

So knowing this would be a possibility, I planned to make soup. Too bad it was so humid or it would have been super perfect. It was very good and certainly what we both needed.

Tarts and Tarts Part 4: Blue Cheese Pear Dessert Tart

I actually made a dessert.  I don`t make desserts.  I don`t even much like desserts. I like savory to sweet.  This was my kind of dessert.  I was agonizing what to make and since I already was making tarts, knew that a dessert one was the way to go.  I was going to make an apple tart.  Then a pear tart.  Then a combo tart, which my mom said was not a good idea so back to the apple tart.  Then I happened on this, a savory pear tart.  I was going to make it as is, and pass it off as dessert, then modified while cooking and is became a dessert.

Tarts and Tarts Part 3: Super Sexy Roasted Beet and Fig Tart

This tart is the supermodel of the bunch, it`s all style and substance and was deemed the sleeper.

I used this recipe as my base with some changes.  I don`t like dried figs, which this called for, so I just roasted my own.

Tarts and Tarts Part 2: Tomato Tart

This was by far my favorite tart of the evening, a very simple tomato tart with really nice heirloom tomatoes.  Is was not the sexiest tart of the night, but just super good. I pretty much used this recipe and it is a winner.  I`ve never used a Liebowitz recipe, and frankly I don`t go to his site much, if ever unless I get linked to it off another site.  I think he`s a bit overrated and has a bigger following than warranted simply be cause is an American living in Paris and that is a housewife`s wet dream, but maybe I`m being an ass.

Tarts and Tarts Part 1: Caramelized Onion Tart

This set of posts is going to be different since I normally write my posts as/right after cooking, but this time I am doing it the next day since these are all part of a dinner party menu.  I was going to make one big old long post, but it would be really long.  I`m going to pretend here that I was not super multitasking and just made these one at a time.

First up, Caramelized Onion Tart – not quite sure why I bothered with a recipe, it is what it is, but I kept this up as reference. I didnt`t really follow the directions, but you can, or don`t, or ignore mine, you call.
